When I was 18 years old, I worked in a diner as a server.
I had to listen to a lot of customers complain and sometimes people were not very nice.
When I turned 21, I got a job working as a bartender and I still listened to people complain, but at least the tips were way better. I worked as a bartender for a long time and then a very interesting opportunity fell into my lap. My girlfriend’s mom got a job working as a manager for a recreational cannabis dispensary. She wanted me to come work as her assistant manager and she offered me a ton of money and benefits. I really liked working in the bar, but I knew the 9-5 job would be better for someone starting a family in a few months. Now that I work in a cannabis dispensary, I can honestly say that it isn’t too much different than working at the bar. I still serve comfort to all of my guests and I still have to hear complaints and problems. Last week, a customer was yelling at the top of his lungs about a special that we were having on marijuana. The special was BOGO on certains brands and we even offered mix and match. The customer wanted to mix and match another brand not offered in the promotion and he became irate when we refused to make the substitution. I didn’t have any control over the specials offered by our corporate office, but the guy acted like I was personally trying to make him upset.
