Shortly after recreational cannabis was legalized in my state, my friends and I visited a local dispensary.
I was extremely curious as to what it would be like.
I will admit that I pictured something rather small and seedy. I was totally taken aback by the large and modern facility. The place is open and bright and welcoming. The staff is friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. I was able to ask all sorts of questions of the budtenders and they patiently explained different options. I hadn’t realized there were so many different types of cannabis strains. I couldn’t believe the display of products available. I was unaware that there were different strains that provide various effects. I learned about sativa and indica plants and the hybrids that combine properties from them both. The budtender explained about the importance of terpenes and how they affect the aroma, taste and overall experience. He told me about THC and CBD and recommended that I pay careful attention to the levels of each. I was also shocked by the many consumption methods. I’d smoked weed a few times in college but was still surprised by the pre-rolls, vapes and concentrates. I was interested in the ease of tinctures. This method is wonderfully discreet and involves placing a few drops of oil under the tongue. While I’d heard of cannabis brownies, I hadn’t realized there were cooking oils, infused drinks and even pasta sauce. Visiting the dispensary was a very eye-opening experience. I have since learned to appreciate the many benefits of cannabis as well. It isn’t simply for relaxing after a hard day but legitimately helps with a wide range of medical issues.
