I remember sneaking behind the garage, or running off to the park so my friends and I could smoke a bit of pot. Recreational pot was our go to whenever we felt we wanted to have fun, or just to run away from our lives. Back then, none of us would have ever thought recreational pot would be legalized. It just wasn’t something our parents, or anyone else in our community would have chosen to vote for. Our parents were always telling us about the sins of recreational pot and how it was going to give us cancer. I know that the two have nothing to do with each other, but twenty years later, I was diagnosed with skin cancer. I was already an anxious person, and just the idea of cancer was enough to put my nerves on edge. I talked to my doctor and he asked if I had any pain. I told him it wasn’t the pain, or the fear, but the idea of having cancer. I told him my story about my mom always telling me everything would cause cancer. She had never told me that too much sun would cause cancer, but she never came out and said it. She did say that a sunburn could cause cancer and she was right. The doctor told me that if it was a simple case of nerves, I may be able to find some relief with recreational pot. He didn’t want me to overindulge, but a gummy here or there could be beneficial. I went to the pot store and picked up some gummies. I couldn’t believe the relief the use of pot gummies gave me. I guess this holistic health thing is the real deal.
